  • How to be a How-To Writer students sharing

Kindergarteners visited the First Grade classrooms to learn a thing or two about how to be a how-to writer! First Graders shared their drafts or published pieces and explained what a good how-to writer does to teach someone else the steps for doing something. Kindergartners looked at checklists and asked questions. They even taught the First Graders a bit about writing too!

  • CHS Student "Teachers" Educate BAS

During the month of January, Cranford High School Seniors in the Ready-Set-Teach program taught "a lesson in a professional educator's classroom" as part of their final project.

Though the students were nervous to be the teachers, they were very excited and did a wonderful job sharing their knowledge of Martin Luther King, Inauguration Day, Light Energy, Matter, and Reading Skills.  Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students were also very excited to learn from these bright, hardworking, and eager teachers-to-be!

What a great experience for everyone involved!

  • The First Graders read the book Heartprints by P.K. Hallinan.  According to P.K. Hallinan, "a heartprint is formed when you do something kind.  Your love touches others leaving heartprints behind."  The students learned that kindness is a very big thing, and one simple act of kindness can change someone's entire day, leaving a lasting impression!  First Graders created lists of various ways they could show kindness in school, on the playground, and towards others.  The students wrote their kind acts and kind words on hearts, which are on a bulletin display at Lincoln Avenue School.

Did you leave a heartprint today?
